Meningococcal Vaccinations B (Bexsero) & ACYM (MenQuadfi)

Meningococcal disease can affect anyone but most common in young children and those living in close accommodations. Complications include meningococcal meningitis affecting the membrane of the brain and spinal cord. Loss of limbs can also occur due to poisoning of the blood (septicemia).

Mainly infect people through the A,B,C,W, and Y groups via coughing and sneezing or by contact with saliva. Symptoms include flu-like illnesses, meningitis, and inflammation in areas of the tongue and throat. Young people living in shared hostel/boarding accommodation or halls of residence are potentially at increased risk of developing meningococcal disease. Meningococcal vaccines protect against meningococcal disease and helps stop it spreading to others. We are able to provide Bexsero vaccine (which covers Meningococal group B) and MenQuadfi (which covers group A, C, W, Y).

Meningococcal vaccines are FREE for those 16 – 25 years entering within the next 3 months or in their first year of boarding school hostels, tertiary education hall of residence, military barracks, Youth Justice residence or prisons.

They are also part of the national immunisation programme for babies.

Get immunised again if your last meningococcal vaccinations were more than 5 years ago or you’ve never had it, remember you need both MenACWY and MenB vaccinations for best protection.
